Course Objectives
Students are expected to:
- Examine basic concepts related to policy educational and social policy.
- Identify the main factors that influence educational policy such as social, cultural and human capital.
- Analyze national and international educational research to interpret issues in education.
- Critically examine issues in current Turkish educational policy and global education in relation to school climate, student achievement, student well-being, school management, and emerging topics.

Students are expected to
- Explain the relationship between education and social policy.
- Examine factors such as economic, social, and educational background on student learning and schooling outcomes.
- Examine components of school effectiveness including teacher education, and school quality on students’ cultural, social, academic capital outcomes.
- Analyze educational policy documents, research briefs, government hearings or news reports to engage into critical discussion and analyze the impact of the issue on the schooling process, especially in disadvantaged contexts for social justice and equity.
- Examine national and international educational research and review issues in education about education policy regarding achievement gap, poverty, early school dropout, employment, equity, health, social stratification, migration, and/or physical/mental disadvantage.
- Review current Turkish educational policy regarding its impact on students’ schooling outcomes and well-being. Report on national or international examinations, instructional programs, family-school relationships or school administration that is of interest to students.
- Propose an action study regarding educational policy formulated for students, teachers, administrators, parents, and other school stakeholders such as supervisors and inspectors.
- Interpret a current policy or consider a policy need at the national or international level.
- Critically examine its impact on social policy outcomes for short-term and long-term impacts.
