Course Objectives

  • Know the historical foundation of Turkish Education System in relation to the global context
  • Understand the historical patterns pertaining to education system in Turkey
  • Analyze the historical patterns pertaining to education system in Turkey
  • Gain a basic understanding about the concepts and theories of school administration and management with a special emphasis on the recent developing approaches.
  • Acknowledge the role of education in society with a specific emphasis on historical events and organizational characteristics
  • Show sensitivity for how ethnicity, gender, and social class have affected the Turkish education system 

Course Content

This course is designed for prospective teachers to develop the perception and skills related to education systems, Turkish Education System, and school management. It aims to increase understanding of Turkish Education System and other basic concept of education management such as organizational structure, organizational culture, motivation, leadership, decision-making, communication, organizational change, finance, and personnel administration.


Course Learning Outcomes

  • Describe the features of the education system at different points in Turkish History
  • Explain the historical foundation of The Turkish Education system in relation to the global context.
  • Identify historical patterns in the education system in Turkey
  • Trace the reflection of these patterns throughout the history of the Turkish Education system
  • Examine the issues of Turkish Education system in terms of the historical patterns that have emerged.
  • Relate the historical patterns that have emerged in The Turkish Education System to developments in education that have taken place in other parts of the world  
  • Distinguish between different theories of school administration and management
  • Apply the basic theories and concepts of school management onto Turkish school system in connection with the recent developments in the field.
  • Challenge the mainstream frameworks in the education system
  • Examine the role of education in producing and transforming the existing power relations in society
  • Identify strategies for resolving problems related to issues of ethnicity, gender and social class in the Turkish Education System. 
  • Acknowledge various social, cultural, and economic realities of different Turkish communities affecting educational practices in a historical perspective.
