Course Objectives

The main purpose of this course is to discuss research and theory-based knowledge about development, learning, and motivation. In addition, it will cover practical ideas and suggestions about instructional techniques you might use during your practice teaching, and when you become teachers. So this course aims to help students

  • Understand basic concepts and principles related to the field of educational psychology.

  • Examine basic research designs and their use in developing knowledge for development and learning.

  • Examine development theories in terms of conceptual foundations and implications for analyzing individuals’ developmental characteristics

  • Assess implications of development theories for teaching and learning in schools

  • Compare learning theories in terms of conceptual foundations and basic principles

  • Draw implications of learning theories for teaching and learning in schools

  • Analyze basic motivation concepts and principles in terms of implications for teaching and learning in schools


Course Content

Various dimensions of human development (cognitive, social, psychological, moral and physical), approaches to learning and learning process, learning styles, motivation and individual differences in learning.

Student who passed the course will be able to:

  • define the field of educational psychology
  • describe significance of educational psychology in teaching-learning process
  • analyze the implications of psychological principles in educational settings
  • distinguish scientific knowledge from common sense knowledge  
  • interpret scientific research results in the field of educational psychology

  • identify the interaction among different domains of development (such as cognitive and moral development)
