Course Objectives

By the end of this course, the students are expected to;

  •  understand philosophical, sociological and psychological foundations of education and their roles in teaching
  •  comprehend basic and related concepts of education
  • comprehend basic characteristics/skills of teachers
  • identify needs and problems of education at k12 level
  • develop interest in education and teaching as a profession
  • explain the schooling structure and  the legal bases of Turkish National Education
  • be familiar with code of ethics and the legal bases concerned with the teaching profession

 


Course Content

Characteristics and principles of teaching profession, school and classroom contexts, alternative perspectives in education, social, psychological, philosophical and historical foundations of education, Turkish education system.


Course Learning Outcomes

  • By the end of this course, students are expected to;

    ·           identify the legal bases concerned with the teaching profession

    ·           describe the relationship among the basic concepts of education

    ·           identify teachers' professional skills and abilities in teaching

    ·           define effective teachers' including their personal attributes and characteristics

    ·           explain the importance of teacher effectiveness in creating educational equity

    ·           describe the structure of schooling in Turkey explain the legal bases for Turkish National Education

    ·           discuss the role of problem solving and reflection in teaching explain different philosophies of education

    ·           discuss the social issues affecting students and schools

    ·           review the sociological theories affecting educational practices

    ·           discuss the aims and forms of education identify the basic issues and problems of the Turkish Education system and schooling

    ·           acknowledge the code of ethics in teaching profession

    ·           suggest solutions to the problems of Turkish education and schooling

    ·           respect teaching as a profession

    ·           appreciate the role of education and teaching profession in the society
