Course Objectives

Acquisition of knowledge on the documentary sources and research methods and used for the study of the cultural heritage; improvement of skills and abilities for analytical research to deal with, and protect, without bias, the cultural heritage of all periods in Anatolia in particular.

Knowledge: Acquisition of knowledge on the literary and documentary sources of all periods relating to Anatolian cultures and civilizations, as well as research methods and ethics necessary for the study of cultural heritage prior to any intervention project of conservation

Skills: Improvement of skills and abilities to develop independent and analytical research and critical awareness in studying documentary sources and textual evidence for a better understanding, interpretation, and protection of the past

Attitudes: Development of awareness towards the cultural heritage of all civilizations with equal care and respect 


Course Content

Introduction to the documentary (written and visual) sources and research methods used for the study of the cultural heritage, as well as to the methods of academic citing and ethical issues in science and research.

By the end of this course, the student will be able to:

Knowledge:

  • Reach, discuss, and interpret the documentary sources used for the study of the cultural heritage
  • Improve expertise in the use of the relevant sources towards a better interpretation and conservation of cultural heritage

Skills:

  • Develop critical awareness, understanding, and interpretation of all past cultures forming the diverse and large cultural and chronological context of Anatolia through the use of documentary evidence
  • Build up abilities of independent and analytical research

Attitudes:

  • Demonstrate awareness, sensibility, and professional ethics towards cultural diversity and utmost care for the cultural heritage of all civilizations, without bias.
