Course Objectives

At the end of this course, the student will 

  • comprehend what learning and instructional theories
  • analyze how  learning and instructional theories are related and different
  • distinguish different types of learning theories
  • analyze different types of learning theories
  • evaluate different types of instuctional theories for different types of learning outcomes
  • evaluate strengths and weaknesses of learning and instructional theories
  • create a lesson in accordance with instructional theories.

Course Content

An overview of major learning theories including behaviorism, cognitivism, and constructivism. Implications of these theories to computer education. Major instructional design principles as applied to computer education and instructional technology.


Course Learning Outcomes

At the end of the course, students will 

  • define learning theory and   instructional theory 
  • compare learning theories and instructional theories
  • examine how learning theories and instructional theories are related and different
  • evaluate covered learning and instructional theories by citing their strengths and weaknesses.
  • critique similarities and the differences between the theories covered in the course.
  • critique covered learning  and instructional theories in regard to their implications for instruction.
  • critique covered  learning and instructional theories in regard to their implications for the field of instructional technology.
  • create a lesson plan in accordance with  instructional theories selected
