Course Objectives
To get acquainted all civil engineering students with the transportation field.
Course Content
Introduction to transportation systems. Vehicles, network and terminals as components of transportation systems engineering. Design of transportation facilities emphasizing land transportation. Operations planning of transportation systems and traffic engineering. Models of traffic flow. Traffic analysis at intersections. Basic definitions and computations of level of service. Planning and management techniques.
Course Learning Outcomes
Students familiar with the general principles presented in the course would practice these with ease if transportation and traffic engineering field is chosen as career. Content of course aims to develop skills for designing highway and traffic engineering systems in an effective manner. An ability to design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs and an ability to use the techniques, skills, and modern engineering tools necessary for engineering practice.
