Course Objectives
The main objectives of this course are:
- To develop an understanding of the historical origins of high performance green buildings,
- To provide knowledge of terminology on sustainability and green buildings,
- To provide knowledge of green building evaluation systems,
- To provide knowledge of green building components,
Course Content
The need for sustainability in Construction, Green Building Assessment Tools, Site Selection Strategies, Water Efficiency Strategies, Material Selection Strategies, Indoor Environmental Quality Strategies, Operations & Management of Sustainable Buildings, Economic Analysis of Sustainable Buildings, Future of Sustainability in Construction.
Course Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, the successful students are expected to:
- explain the differences between sustainable design and green design,
- list the main components of green design,
- describe the project management stages of green design,
- perform life-cycle energy analysis with a well-known simulation program,
- quantify the estimated water consumption of buildings by following preferred methodologies,
- develop suggestion on how to minimize the expendable resources, such as water energy, used in buildings,
- explain the relationship between design, construction and operation in terms of green design,
- discuss the cost implications of green buildings,
