Course Objectives

This course provides:

  • the knowledge of fundamental issues of construction management,
  • the theory, techniques, methodologies, and tools for managing construction projects,
  • the advantages and disadvantages of different approaches to managing construction projects. 

Course Content

A seminar consisting of weekly submissions by students on topics selected from among the following: office and site organization, site layout, subcontract management, management of legal and liability affairs, site security, management information systems, financial management, purchasing and materials management, stock control, cost control, prefabrication plant management, repair shop management, quality control, project scheduling and management, resource management, etc.


Course Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, the successful students are expected to:

  • explain the major management approaches for the construction projects,
  • analyze different phases of a construction project and identify major concerns for managing them,
  • discuss different tools and techniques employed for the management of construction projects and match them on case-by-case basis,
  • describe the advantages and disadvantages of using BIM in a construction project from a management perspective.
