Course Objectives
Student will know and recite the structures of informational molecules. They will know and recite the basics of DNA replication, transcription, translation, genetic coding system.
Course Content
An introductory course offered to non-Biology students, covering the structure and properties of biomolecules, their interactions, organization of genes on chromosomes, replication and transcription of genetic material, protein synthesis and genetic engineering techniques.
Course Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, the students will be able to
- Draw the generic structure of a nucleotide and an amino acid
- Name the informational biomolecules
- List the enzymes working in DNA replication
- Describe transcription
- Recite the sequence of events that take place in translation
- Solve problems dealing with the genetic code

- List the phenotypic outcomes of point mutations

- Explain how gene expression is controlled
