Course Objectives

To train the students on system dynamics and the basic concepts of feedback control systems. At the end of the course the students are expected to be able to analyze linear dynamic systems, compute their responses to initial conditions and sample input signals. Also the students are expected to understand concepts such as linearity, stability, dynamic equilibrium, linearization, closed-loop control, etc.

Course Content

System concepts; Laplace transformation and properties; transfer function, block diagram, and reduction; lumped parameter modelling of physical systems; state space formulation, linearization of nonlinear systems; stability of linear time invariant systems, Routh test; time domain analysis of dynamic systems, response, performance specifications; feedback control system examples, P, PD, PID control; frequency response methods.
