Course Objectives

The students will be able to know the advanced principles of  vibrating elastic bodies.

The students will be able to formulate and solve complex engineering problems involving  vibrating elastic bodies.

The students will be able to recognize the difference in  vibratory behaviour of particles and elastic bodies.

Course Content

Introduction to the dynamics of wave motion. Energy carrying mechanisms. Forced motion in infinite, uninterrupted uniform structures. Wave characteristics of one-dimensional and two-dimensional continuous systems. Coupled vibrations of open-section, thin-walled channels. Effects of warping. Wave propagation in mono and multi-coupled periodic structures. Characteristics of propagation constants. Characteristics of multi-bay periodic and non-periodic structures.

Course Learning Outcomes

The student will be able to identify the differences in the vibratory behaviour of beams and plates.

The student will be able to develop mathematical models for the solution of vibratory behaviour of beams and plates.
