Course Objectives

This course aims to reflct on critically the role and meaning of ‘Europe’ within a global context. The students upon the completion of the course should be able to identify and analyse the key areas in which Europe is becoming an increasingly important actor as well as develop a critical outlook in terms of the increasing complexity of issues arising in Europe, particularly in the EU

Course Learning Outcomes

On successfully completing the course students will be able to:

  • understand the complex inter-relationship between Europe and the rest of the world, with particular reference to the debates surrounding the issues of globalisation and integration;
  • identify, analyse and assess the impact of contemporary global economic, political, environmental and security developments on Europe;
  • analyse and explain the various bordering practices attached to 'Europe' within the framework of processes like migration and security
