Course Objectives

The objectives of the course are to conceive and learn the Turkish alphabet, pronunciation, reading and develop basic communication skills in reading, writing, speaking and listening. Emphasis will be placed on vocabulary expansion, basic grammar acquisition and basic comprehension


Course Content

Basic start-up in Turkish language: Basic oral expressions (how to get acquainted with new people, how to use greeting expressions & survival words necessary for daily life). Grammer studies: the present continuous, simple past and past continuous tenses. Cases (locative, ablative, dative, accusative, instrumental) are taught using various materials. The first aim of this course is to make the students able to communicate with the outside world and to make them able to read & interpret articles in simple linguistic structures.
Note: The content of this course may vary according to the Turkish language level of the students.


Course Learning Outcomes

Student, who passed the course satisfactorily will be able to:

Greet and bid farewell, introduce her/himself and others, talk about his and others’ occupations, write short essays about her/himself, talk about her/his family, offer help, ask about price and evaluate the cost, ask to repeat, thank, read product specifications, fill a form, make telephone calls, understand words about spare time activities, make compliments, talk about hobbies and skills, request and thank, date, make an offer and react, listen to and understand talks about food and drinks, talk about eating and drinking habits, understand dialogues about eating, listen and understand announcements, get information and end a phone conversation.
