Course Objectives
At the end of this course, the students will have reached CEFR A1 level in the four main language skills.
Course Content
A course designed for Exchange Students, International Summer School and other Special Program Students. This course aims at providing the students who have little or no knowledge of Turkish with the skills required for basic communication. The students will be exposed to the basic structures of the Turkish language in communicative contexts. Some insight into the Turkish culture and life style will be given.
Course Learning Outcomes
Student, who passed the course satisfactorily will be able to:
understand simple questions which directly concern them, for example when someone asks them their name or their address.
understand simple information about an object (for example, the size and colour of a ball, who it belongs to and where it is) if the person speaking talks slowly and clearly.
understand straightforward tasks and instructions, especially when pictures or manual gestures are used to help them understand what to do.
understand, for example in a shop, how much something costs, if the salesperson makes an effort to help them understand.
understand simple words and very short sentences concerning themselves, the family, school etc. if the person speaking talks slowly and clearly.
understand short conversations on subjects they are familiar with (for example school, family,hobbies) provided that people talk slowly and clearly.
pick out the main information (for example place, time or price) on posters, brochures and signs and understand it.
read a simple, very short text, sentence by sentence and understand it; in so doing they pick out the information which they find clearest and read it, if necessary, several times.
work out what relatively simple information material is about, especially if there are illustrations which help them to understand.
understand certain words in texts.
recognise parts of words they know (in particular prefixes, suffixes and endings) in many relatively long words.
understand a form well enough to know where they have to insert the main information concerning them (in particular their name, date of birth and address).
answer simple questions using individual words, expressions or short sentences.
ask where to find a book, a ball or other familiar objects. They can also answer this sort of question.
ask a person how they are and they can also say how they feel.
greet adults and children and take leave of them, using the appropriate words.
interact in a simple way, provided the other person understands their difficulties and helps them.
say what day of the week it is, the date and the time and they can also ask someone the day, the date and the time.
introduce themselves very briefly, for example say their name, where they come from and what school they attend.
give other people some basic information concerning their family, for example, who the members of their family are, how old they are and what they do.
tell other people what they like and what they don’t like (for example with regard to sports, music, school,etc.).
write down some personal information concerning themselves (age, address or hobbies) on a list or a letter in which they introduce themselves.
use simple words to describe some everyday objects (for example the colour of a car, whether it is big or small).
give information concerning themselves in a simple written form (for example in an exchange of information with a partner in a chat session: their name, address, where they come from, their age,
preferences and hobbies); they can also write to other people asking for this sort of information.
briefly introduce themselves, their family and describe their hobbies.
