Course Objectives

This course is the continuation of STAT 551 PROBABILITY AND STATISTICS I. The goal of this course is to introduce students to the basic probability theory and mathematical statistics and help them in establishing a good theoretical background for their future professions.

Course Content

Order statistics, exponential families, sufficiency, point estimation, hypothesis testing, interval estimation, confidence intervals.

Course Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course, students are expected to:

  • familiarize themselves with concepts such as order statistics, exponential family, location/scale parameters,
  • learn some main point estimation techniques and the properties of these estimators, such as unbiasedness, completeness, sufficiency,
  • learn theoretical background on hypothesis testing and interval estimation, together with their applications
