Course Objectives

  • Explore the role of technology in contemporary school mathematics teaching and learning.
  • Understand the content (what), methods (how), and materials (tools) necessary to teach mathematics in a technologically oriented society.
  • Examine and become familiar with various technologies (e.g., computer software, Web-based/virtual manipulatives, graphing calculators and/or handheld devices, etc.) and technology-based lesson materials.
  • Learn about major research issues in teaching mathematics within a technology assisted/oriented environment.
  • Construct/build a technology assisted learning environment that supports the teaching and learning of meaningful mathematics. 

Course Content

Development of a learning package with educational software, printed materials, instruction for teachers including the philosophy and background of the concepts.


Course Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course the students will be able to

  • evaluate the role of technology in contemporary school mathematics teaching and learning.
  • evaluate the content (what), methods (how), and materials (tools) necessary to teach mathematics in a technologically oriented society.
  • compare and contrast various technologies (e.g., computer software, Web-based/virtual manipulatives, graphing calculators and/or handheld devices, etc.) and technology-based lesson materials.
  • understand major research issues in teaching mathematics within a technology assisted/oriented environment.
  • construct a technology assisted learning environment that supports the teaching and learning of meaningful mathematics.
