Course Objectives

Within this course, students will develop a conceptual framework for integrating technology into mathematics education. In this class, students will:

  • Explore and discuss the use of several instructional technologies.
  • Become familiar with designing lesson plans those integrating technology to maximize student learning.
  • Find and evaluate electronic resources for their future instructional use.
  • Collaborate with their friends to comprehend the
  • Become familiar with current research on teaching and learning with technology.
  • Generate a personal rationale for using technology in education based on findings from research and practice.

Course Content

The potential and the place of technology in particular information technology and cognitive tools, in teaching and learning mathematics. The impacts of calculator and computers on curriculum and new standards for the professional development of mathematics teachers. Use of such technologies in teaching/learning algebra, geometry, pre-calculus, statistics, probability and problem solving.

Upon completing this course pre-service teachers will be able to:

  • Demonstrate a sound understanding of technology components and their operations.
  • Explain the distinction between technology integration and technology use.
  • Compare and contrast the levels of technology integration.
  • Design and implement effective learning environments and experiences those integrate technology.
  • Make a decision of proper combination of technology and pedagogy for the selected mathematics content.
  • Use technology for collaboration with their colleagues for building a community of practice.
  • Utilize technology to facilitate various effective assessment strategies for student learning.
  • Analyze specific technologies across contexts and content according to their usage. (e.g., K-12, higher education, algebra, geometry etc.)
  • Develop and implement rich technology-integrated lesson plans by deciding an appropriate combination of technology, mathematics content and pedagogy.
