Course Objectives

Students will understand key arguments of and debates on the intersection of gender, class and patriarchy with a global perspective.


Course Content

The classical approaches to class and patriarchy in historical and contemporary perspectives; interpretation and explanation of structured social inequality, patriarchal relations and their implications on politics and social change; women´s position and the system of economic exploitation; feminist and main-stream stances on the gender and stratification debate; feminist approaches giving emphasis on patriarchal structures.


Course Learning Outcomes

1. Students will define classic theoretical readings about gender issues on class and patriarchy.

2. Students will identify the intersection of class, gender and race by taking into consideration a number of global developments, such as the rising impact of neo-liberalism, and conservative and nationalist movements.

3. Students will discuss the intersection of gender and class by looking at diverse subjects such as employment, poverty, political participation, education, health, sexuality and reproductive rights.

4. Students will trace reasons and consequences of different practices of gender regimes embedded in diverse class and patriarchal structures.
