Course Objectives
This course aims to introduce students in the Settlement Archaeology program to topics and techniques from the geo-sciences. The main topics of the course include environmental systems, site formation processes, archaeological sites in their physical settings, human impact on the landscape, paleo-environmental reconstructions, and the geochemical, mineralogical and petrographical techniques used in the study of raw materials for craft production.
Course Content
This course discusses paleo-morphological and geological processes as applied to settlement archaeology. The main topics of the course include environmental systems, natural formation processes, spatial context of the sites in their physical settings, human impact on the landscape, paleo-environmental reconstructions.
