Course Objectives

At the conclusion of the course, students will be able to demonstrate the following:  1) A developing awareness of and competency in understanding core principles of clinical psychology, including but not limited to assessment and diagnosis, current research on effective psychological assessments and treatments, and research methodology in clinical psychology; 2) Critical thinking in relation to scientific evidence on optimal approaches to providing mental health care.


Course Content

Historical development and relationships with other disciplines; review of recent theories and research in the major areas of clinical psychology such as measurement of abilities, personality assessment, psychotherapy and prevention of behavior disorders; clinical psychology as a profession; training, legislation, licensing and ethical standards. Visits to settings where clinical psychologists are working may be arranged


Course Learning Outcomes

This course will cover information about Clinical Psychology, issues related to the clinical area and related discussions about its practices.

 

The aim of the course is to gain understanding about Clinical Psychology, Clinical Approaches and its practices, ethical issues and relevant practical problems that can be specific to the area.

 

Students are expected to improve their understanding on core principles of clinical psychology especially about assessment and diagnosis, ethical and cultural difficulties, and psychological treatments. It is expected to help students gain critical thinking in relation to both application and research practices of the clinical area with a professional viewpoint.
