Course Objectives

This course aims to give an overview of the theories and empirical evidence in the field of emotion and its regulation. Methods used to conduct research on the physiological and experiential facets of emotions, their functions, action tendencies, expression and communication will be discussed. Students will also learn about cultural influences on emotions such as fear, anger, sadness and joy. Findings on the strategies people use to regulate their emotions, as well as the cognitive and social outcomes of such strategies will be explored.
