Course Objectives

This course aims to provide students with an introduction to the basic principles of measurement in psychology; norm development, validity, reliability, test development and use of tests. Measurement of abilities, intelligence and personality are among the other topics covered in this course.


Course Content

Students will be exposed to the basic principles of measurement in psychology; norm development validity, reliability, and related statistics. Special emphasis will be given to test development and use of tests. Nature of abilities, intelligence and issues in intelligence testing are among the other topics covered in this course


Course Learning Outcomes

  • The students are expected to:

    • be able to gain an understanding of main issues in psychological testing and measurement

    • familiarise themselves with psychological measurement of both personality and intelligence

    • describe the fundamental elements of psychometrics in test development, as well as the elements of good practice in the administration, scoring and interpretation of test scores.

    • understand of the limitations of psychometric approaches

    • develop a scale of their own
