Course Objectives
This course is designed to give students an introductory background to the causes of stress and how stress affects our body. The course will also focus upon stress reducing techniques. The class is an interactive class with the students learning how to incorporate stress reducing techniques into their own lives.
Course Content
The course aims at introducing basic theories and empirical evidence about human stress response. Focusing on transaction between mind and body and between persons and environments, the course intends to examine how physiological, psychological, social and cultural factors come together to influence what people perceive as stressful and how they cope with it. The course also involves practical applications of various emotion and problem focused coping skills.
Course Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course students are expected to:
- Understand the concept of stress
- Understand the effects of stress on our body
- Understand the link between experiencing stress and health problems
- Understand how different emotions are linked to stress
- Identify appropriate stress management techniques.
- Discover their individual stressors and the effects of those stressors.
- Discover their current stress management style and determine its effectiveness.
- Create an effective personal stress management plan.
