Course Objectives

PSYC116 Statistics for Psychology – We aim to familiarize students with the basic principles of statistics, in particular descriptive (e.g., mean) and inferential statistics (e.g., t-test, one-way ANOVA). Students are expected to learn these basics as well as the relationship between hypothesis testing, probability and statistics. These statistical procedures are taught both manually and on computer applications such as JASP.


Course Content

This course will introduce the basics of descriptive statistics and the principles of hypothesis testing. Methods of summarizing data, principles of probability, and basic assumptions and methods of hypothesis testing will be discussed as they relate to psychological research. The course will include weekly problem sessions (2 hours a week) to reinforce the learning of the principles by application.

Students are expected to learn basic principles of statistics as well as the relationship between hypothesis testing and statistics.
