Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course, the students should have advanced knowledge of:

  • the concepts, terminology and principles of traffic and transportation psychology
  • human factors in traffic and transportation settings
  • the societal, psychological and environmental factors effecting human behaviour in traffic and transportation settings
  • vulnerable and problematic human groups with their characteristics in traffic and transportation settings
  • modelling and constructing scientific studies, collecting, analysing and reporting data in the field of traffic and transportation psychology

 


Course Content

The aim of the course is to give students an overview on the main theories, methods and empirical findings of traffic psychology. Main emphasis in the course is on traffic safety and means of improving driver behavior. Since traffic safety is a product of many societal, psychological and environmental factors, the approach in the course is interdisciplinary. In addition to classroom teaching, field exercises and demonstrations will be used.


Course Learning Outcomes

Students, who passed the course satisfactorily, should be able to:

  • define in detail and combine traffic and transportation psychology related concepts and principles
  • describe the details of role of human factors in traffic and transportation settings
  • identify and describe the role of the societal, psychological and environmental factors related to human behaviours in traffic and transportation settings
  • model and construct a scientific study in the field of traffic and transportation psychology; collect, analyse and report related data
