Course Objectives

At the end of this course, the student will:

  • acquire information on prerequisites of identifying a workplace training program
  • acquire information on principles of workplace training design and delivery
  • learn the steps in evaluating training effectiveness
  • learn key points for specific topics of training (e.g., leadership, team cross-training, diversity training
  • acquire skills in developing a training program
  • acquire skills in delivering part of a training program
  • hone their skills in critically evaluating the scientific literature on training
  • hone their discussion and presentation skills

Course Content

This course is basically concerned with teaching basic training and employee development techniques used in industry. Furthermore, the course also covers how to evaluate the effectiveness of a specific training program. The typical topics of the course include needs assessment, training techniques, training for special groups (e.g., executives, middle managers, hard-core unemployed), the choice of criteria in evaluating training programs. The orientation of this course is both theoretical and applied.
