Course Objectives

The goal of this course is to immerse students in a hands-on, basic field study experience focused on traffic psychology, involving data collection, analysis and presenting the findings. Students will gather data and progressively analyze it to raise awareness and promote safety in addressing traffic-related issues. Throughout the process, they will be guided and supervised by the course instructor and teaching assistants. By the end of the term, students will present their findings and reflect on the process.

Information about the Course for the Spring Semester of 2024-2025:

During the Spring semester of 2024-2025, this course will take place in the Erdal İnönü Hall, located on the Music and Fine Arts Department floor of the Library building.

Students who attend the first class on February 18, 2025, will be able to add the course to their registration during the add-drop period.

Students who do not attend the first class but still wish to take the course are required to contact (ozbahar@metu.edu.tr) and get the approval of the instructor before adding the course to their registration.

 


Course Content

Each topics course is designed to deepen the student ` s knowledge in a selected issue-oriented sub-area of the field. The course may involve analysis of current theoretical debates, a detailed treatment of a subarea, which may appear as a chapter in a regular survey course, or by getting acquainted with the skills required for in depth analysis.


Course Learning Outcomes

The course is designed to help students understand how to conduct a small-scale traffic psychology study step by step. Upon completion, students will have a deeper understanding of traffic systems, traffic culture, and safety improvement, alongside key concepts in traffic psychology. They will also gain practical experience in conducting a basic field study in this area.
