Course Objectives

The purpose of this course is to expand students’ skills in conducting and evaluating research in social psychology. Students will build upon the knowledge that they acquired in introductory research methods and statistics classes and gain hands-on experience in various steps of conducting research in psychology. These include critically evaluating empirical studies, designing a study, writing a formal proposal (literature review, hypotheses, and method sections), collecting data, conducting data analysis with SPSS/JASP or another data analysis program, writing a formal research paper, and verbally & visually presenting your findings. This course is focused on gaining critical skills for advanced level research methods.


Course Content

The major aim is to involve the students in a typical research activity in their field of interest including designing of research, data collection, analysis of the results, and writing up a research report. Areas in which workshops will be offered will be announced, together with the course codes, each semester.
Prerequisite: Consent of the instructor.


Course Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course students will be able to:

  • find, organize, summarize, and evaluate literature
  • analytically examine and critically evaluate studies and proposals in social psychology
  • correctly design an empirical study for a research question
  • easily prepare a questionnaire and collect data
  • choose appropriate data-analysis tools, perform statistical analysis using software and report on findings
  • concisely communicate their findings verbally and in writing
  • correctly write manuscripts in APA style
