Course Objectives

This course will introduce group psychotherapy. The course objectives are: 

To develop an understanding of group process. To develop an understanding of group theories and research.  To become familiar with basic skills needed to lead a group. To be aware of ethical issues in group work.  To be aware of cultural issues in group work. 

These objectives will be achieved via lectures, readings, and discussions.

Course Description 

 

This course is designed to develop an understanding of group theory and process. The main goals of the course are to establish a theoretical understanding of group process. This course will include principles of group dynamics, group formation, establishing roles and behaviors, leadership styles and characteristics, theories of group therapy, therapeutic factors of group work, evidence-based practice in group therapy, and cultural considerations when working with group clients.
