Course Objectives

Student are expected to gain awareness of

  • The nature of addiction
  • Types of addiction
  • Psychoanalytic perspective on addicted subjects
  • Addiction in relation to technology
  • The nature of psychoanalytic work with addicted people

Course Content

The course aims at defining, identifying and differentiating multiple forms of addictions on the basis of a spectrum of criteria arranged from the psychiatric symptoms and psychological symptomatology to the psychic structures. The nature of addicted subject of jouissance and toxicity, relating the symptom to the underlying structure of the subject as a speaking being, unfolding the transference, the discourse of the analyst and establishing a change in the economy of jouissance will be reviewed.


Course Learning Outcomes

Students will be able to differentiate different types of addiction, learn about psychoanalytic concepts related to the nature and the subject of addiction, have knowledge about dealing with addiction in psychoanalytic perspective at the end of the course.
