Course Objectives

The main objective of the course is developing an orientation about research among students and teaching them the basics of research methods. Specifically, the course aims;

  • to develop an understanding of various research designs and techniques
  • to develop hypotheses that can be tested through experiments
  • to introduce the basic concepts used in research and to scientific psychological research methods and their approach.
  • to identify various sources of information for literature review and data collection.
  • to teach how to design, carry out, analyze and report research projects. 
  • to enable the students to effectively interpret and communicate research findings.
  • to train students so that they become critical consumers of scientific knowledge

Course Content

This course aims to familiarize students with the use of experimental methods in psychology. The in more complex research designs in psychology. The main part of the course will cover the use of Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) in analyzing psychological data. In addition, the use of non-parametric tests and the issue of statistical power will be discussed.Prerequisite: PSY 116


Course Learning Outcomes

After successfully completing this course, students will be expected to be able to 

- select appropriate research methodologies to test a research hypothesis.

- discuss the concepts in various psychological research methods and design. 

- critically analyze the scientific resources in the literature. 

- analyze and interpret quantitative data.

- complete psychological research proposals within a peer group, and write a research report using contemporary APA guidelines.

- make presentations about their research proposals in a coherent and concise manner.
