Course Objectives

·       Address questions of political economy of environment and energy from different theoretical perspectives.

·       Identify the key concepts and debates that encompass this field of study.

·       Be aware of key issues and approaches.

·       Be able to critically interpret the environment among themselves, visualize and discuss the environmental concepts learnt in class.

·       Research, analyze and write about the interlinkages between the economic and environmental change as a social scientist.


Course Content

This course which will introduce you to the principal political economic debates, controversies and policies that have developed regarding key aspects of global environmental change. In addition to a brief examination of the international history of environmental change, the course seeks to focus on a select number of environmental problems and discusses some of the proposed remedies for environmental harms or policies for ‘sustainability’.
