Course Objectives

At the end of the semester the student should have a deep appreciation of how Maxwell's classical theory of electromagnetism is relativistic, and how Special Relativity and its formalism simplifies the description of the dynamics of relativistic particles, radiation by moving charges and radiating systems.

 

 


Course Content

Diffraction radiation; introduction to special relativity and the covariant formulation; radiation from moving charges; multiple expansions; radiation reaction.


Course Learning Outcomes

At the end of the course, the students will have a working knowledge of Special Relativity, and use it to study the dynamics of relativistic particles and electromagnetic fields and radiation by moving charges, and radiating systems at large.
