Course Objectives

This course introduces students to the theory and methodology of sports training. The course will also acquaint the student with the planning and periodization of training cycles and biomotor abilities.


Course Content

This course is designed to provide a detailed understanding of the fundamentals of sports training. Major themes for the course include principles and components of sports training; periodization of training cycles; peaking for competition; training methods for strength, endurance, speed, agility and flexibility; performance testing and evaluation.

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • comprehend the principles and components of sports training
  • describe the variables of sports training
  • explain the methods to develop biomotor abilities
  • understand the planning and periodization of training cycles
