Course Objectives

Develop an understanding of the lifespan human movement and development. Human movement will be discussed from birth through late adulthood. Relationships among development, growth, maturation, and the individuals’ context will be discussed and the possible impacts on physical performance will be criticized in movement settings. How individuals acquire physical skills and the applications of the skills for lifelong physical activity will be analyzed. Individual differences in human movement will be explained as well.

Course Learning Outcomes

Understand the basic concepts of human movement and development across the lifespan.

Explain the interaction among the social, cognitive and physical development and the applications of social and cognitive development to physical activity programs for all ages.

Identify the basic movement concepts and physical skills of individuals from all ages.

Criticize the impact of different constraints (task/performance/environment) on individuals’ physical performance.

Analyze the influence of growth and maturation on the physical performance of children, adolescences, adults and seniors.

Explain the role of aging on human movement and the implications to physical activity programs for the senior population. Discuss the health benefits of physical activity and fitness.

Observe children from different age groups, adults and seniors in the settings to assess their development and movements across the lifespan.

Synthesize class content and make reflections about human movement and development via lab assignments and poster presentation.

Identify and critique major types of developmental research. Use all kinds of technologies for preparing classroom presentations and class projects.  

Work independently and work in a team during the classroom activities.

Demonstrate professionalism and utilize communication skills during the class period. 

Use English language at advanced level for writing and speaking during the class activities.

Demonstrate and behave in accordance with ethical values in personal and professional life.
