Course Objectives

  • To introduce new strokes such as the breaststroke and butterfly.
  • To improve endurance and strength through training exercises and drills.
  • To teach intermediate-level turns, including flip turns and open turns.
  • To provide opportunities for students to practice and refine their swimming skills in a supportive environment. 
  • To appreciate physical fitness and healthy lifestyles.

Course Content

Development of basic swimming techniques. Styles- front crawl stroke, back crawl stroke, breast stroke. To be able to demonstrate and teach these styles. Buoyancy. Sculling. Floating. Standing front dive, underwater swimming and turnings. Understanding of stroke mechanics.


Course Learning Outcomes

At the end of this intermediate-level swimming course, students will be able to:  

  • Swim with improved endurance and strength, as demonstrated by increased laps completed and improved times.
  • Swim the freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly strokes with proper technique and form.
  • Execute intermediate-level turns with proper technique and form, including flip turns and open turns.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and proficiency in diving and survival floating techniques.
  • Apply safety skills and understand the rules and regulations of a pool environment.
  • Practice and refine their swimming skills in a supportive environment, with a focus on individual improvement and progress.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the principles of swim training and how to continue to develop their skills beyond the course.
