Course Objectives

At the end of this course students will be able to:

1.  Understand the need for chemical/ hydrometallurgical processes for diffeerent ores.

2. Know and classify reagents used in chemical mining.

3. Select proper methods in leaching and recovering valuable metals.

Course Content

Theoretical and practical aspects of extracting ores under in-situ environments regarding mining economics and ore evaluation; elements of leaching phase, including mining preparation of ores; practical aspects of in-situ leaching; reagents and their regenerations and recovery of metals from leach liquor; classroom studies on specific problems as individual or group projects.

Course Learning Outcomes

Students successfully completing this course will be equipped to make a judgement on:

1. Which leaching method could be applicable to a certain ore.

2. Which reagents can be used to dissolve the valuable metal(s) from a given ore.

3. How can a leaching method can be applied.

4. Which metal recovery techniques could be used for different pregnant leach solutions (PLS).

5. Reqiured reactor volumes and reagent quantities.

6. Flowsheet development.
