Offered Semester:Fall and Spring Semesters.

Course Objectives

The objective of ME570 is to introduce radiative transfer problems in participating media and their numerical solutions with Monte-Carlo, Discrete-Ordinates and Spherical Harmonics Methods. It is the continuation of ME508 Thermal Radiation course.

Course Content

Fundamental transfer equations of radiative transfer. Radiative equilibrium. Singular eigenfunction-expansion technique and one group transport theory. Full and half-range completeness and orthogonality theorems. Introduction to two-group transport theory. Pre-radiative heat transfer. Interaction with other models of heat transfer. Transport problems in other areas of engineering applications. (R)

Course Learning Outcomes

The students will be ready to solve Radiative Transffer Equation in their radiative transfer in participating medium related MS and PhD theses.
