Course Objectives


Course Content

This course is the second part of a two-course sequence in film criticism and analysis. Employing various theoretical approaches to the study of film, it analyzes a number of Turkish films selected on the basis of a particular theme or mode of cinematic representation. It also offers students the opportunity to write critical essays on the film screened for the class. The focus of this semester s course will be on the representations of social classes in Turkish cinema. It will examine the ways in which class relations and encounters are represented in a group of films belonging to different periods of film history and genres. References will also be made to the literature on Turkish social and cultural history.
