Course Objectives

By the end of the course, students will :

 

 

  • participate in conversations, give and ask for information, express feelings  and emotions and exchange opinions

  • be able to maintain interaction and communicate clearly what he wants to express in a range of contexts

  • follow the main points of length discussion, provided that speech is clearly articulated in standard Italian.

  • understand and analyze written language on a variety of topics

  • analyzing,  summarizing, presenting and discussing written texts

  • understand and interpret spoken language on a variety of topics

  • reading and  examine authentic texts from Italian culture

  • listen and understand audio recording and target-language short film and video


Course Content

A continuation of ITAL 203 at an upper-intermediate level.


Course Learning Outcomes

This is the first  course in the intermediate Italian language sequence.

The objectives of the course are to help students to acquire the ability to use what they have learned by focusing on the essential communicative functions in Italian (describing, comparing, reacting, telling and summarizing, hypothesizing and talking about the future past and present). The course will also help students to achieve a greater comprehension in speaking and writing abilities. Further, this course gives students the opportunity to apply these skills as they learn more about Italian culture through authentic sources. Students will be expected to communicate effectively in Italian .

 

Students will learn how to:

  • describe their country and asking information about someone else country

  • describe the pros and cons of  their city

  • speak about some interesting facts about  Italian touristic cities

  • describe people and their attitudes

  • write a cv

  • answer to a job advertisement and write one  

  • speak about love

  • express feelings

  • speak about  the marriage in Italy

  • express preferences; express opinions, how to find an agreement, making invitations, accepting and refusing invitations.

  • use idiomatic expression

  • use body language and mimic in Italian language

  • speak about culture prejudices

  • write msm, write in social social network and learn about italian Tv

  • speak about environmental problems

Students will study:

  • reciprocal verbs

  • imperative with two pronouns

  • pronominal verbs

  • defective nouns

  • the positıon of the adjectives

  • impersonal construction

  • passive voice

  • relative pronoun

  • interrogatives and relative pronoun chi.

  • present and past conditional.

  • indirect pronouns + direct pronouns.

  • use of the definitive articles

  • the past perfect (trapassato prossimo)

  • prepositions

  • nouns countable and uncountable

  • use of ‘essere’ ‘avere’ with intransitive and transitive verbs
