Course Objectives

This course aims to introduce students to theoretical approaches used to analyse European foreign policy. By the end of the course, the students will be familiar with different theoretical approaches. They will have the knowledge and skills to use theories to analyse not only European foreign policy but also other actors’ foreign policies


Course Content

Europeanization. Theoretical Approaches to Enlargement. Realism and European Foreign Policy. Indentity and European Foreign Policy. Domestic Politics and European Foreign Policy. Foucauldian Approaches to European Foreign Policy. Practice Approach to European Foreign Policy. Role Theory and Europe. Discourse Theory and European Foreign Policy. Securitization and the EU. The EU as an Empire. The EU as a Transformative Actor.


Course Learning Outcomes

The students will be familiar with different theoretical approaches and concepts. They will be able to to use these theories and concepts to analyse not only European foreign policy but also other actors’ foreign policies
