Course Objectives

  • Analyze the foreign policies of major powers in Asia, including China, Russia, Japan, and the United States.

  • Examine the impact of shifts in the international system, from bipolarity to multipolarity, détente, and the post-Cold War era, on Asian geopolitics.

  • Evaluate how historical and contemporary global power transitions influence the strategic decisions of key Asian actors.

  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of the interplay between regional and global forces in shaping Asia’s international relations.


Course Content

This course essentially aims to analyze the foreign policies of the big powers in Asia, including the People's Republic of China, Russia, Japan and the USA. Fundamental changes resulting from shifts in the international system from bipolarity to multipolarity and from multipolarity to detente and the end of the cold war will be the focus of the course.
