Course Objectives
At the end of this course, the student is to learn
- to familiarise students with the basic concepts with which students can explain the underlying causes, dynamics, forms and consequences of Turkish foreign policy
- to equip students with contextual and theoretical perspectives with which students can undertake their research on Turkish foreign policy.
Course Content
The aim of this graduate seminar is to give the student an awareness of the various foreign policy issues that confront Turkey. An attempt will be made to discuss the causes and consequences of the various crises and regional problems between Turkey and its neighbors. The Turco-Greek problems, the Cyprus dispute, Turkeys relations with the Middle Eastern states and with the Turkish republics of the former Soviet Union, as well as the Turco-American and Turco-European ties will be examined.
Course Learning Outcomes
By the end of the semester,
students are expected to contextualize the issues in Turkish foreign policy;
students are expected to comprehend the issues in Turkish foreign policy with a theoretical perspective;
students are expected to develop their academic inquiry and research on the issues of Turkish foreign policy.
