Course Objectives
Course Content
As the repercussions of human rights violations become increasingly difficult to contain within national boundaries, human rights has emerged as a subject of interest for students of international politics. The course analyzes the state of and the impact of human rights on international relations, and addresses the following: Globalization, the international order and human rights, international organizations and human rights, security implications, ethnic conflicts and refugee flows.
Course Learning Outcomes
At the end of the semester students will be able to:
- understand the concepts related to human rights
- justify the place of human rights in international relations.
- understand the role of international human rights conventions and institutions.
- know the distinction between humanitarian intervention and the responsibility to protect.
- identify human rights violations
- evaluate the role played by states and NGOs in protecting and promoting human rights.
- link human rights violations with regional/international security.
