Course Objectives

The aim of this course is to acquaint students with the basic characteristics of modern French history, politics and society. The course covers the evolution of modern France from the French Revolution to the present day. It will particularly examine political institutions, nationalism, state-religion relationship, social change and foreign policy.

The aim of this course is to acquaint students with the basic characteristics of modern French history, politics and society. The course covers the evolution of modern France from the French revolution to the present day. Issues such as political institutions, economy, nationalism, state-religion relationship, immigration and foreign policy are addressed from a comparative perspective.
