Course Objectives
The course aims to foster:
- Identification of the current issues in product-servce systems (PSS) for sustainability,
- Exploration and evaluation of diverse approaches in PSS, and
- Integration of design considerations into PSS for developing sustainable solutions.
Course Content
Interdisciplinary teamwork for developing product-service systems as sustainable solutions for current and future needs. Examining the relationship between industrial design practice and sustainable development considering issues such as prevention and mitigation of environmental problems, dematerialization of production and consumption, and the shift from product-based to solution-oriented design. Exploring product-service systems through concept generation, scenario building, and strategy development for sustainable outcomes.
Course Learning Outcomes
On the completion of this course students will be able to:
- Understand the current issues in product-service systems (PSS) approaches for sustainability,
- Integrate sustainability considerations into projects through examining related tools and methods,
- Develop design solutions for sustainability focusing on PSS approaches, and
- Evaluate and reflect on the adaptation and application process, considering design solutions.
