Course Objectives
The course sets out to:
- examine a substantial and timely issue shaping contemporary design practice and/or research;
- encourage critical engagement with relevant concepts, literature, and case studies;
- provide opportunities for structured discussion and collaborative learning;
- support students in articulating informed positions on complex design-related topics.
Course Content
Thorough examination of a substantial and contemporary issue in design practice and/or research, selected by the course instructor. Involves critical reviews and in-depth discussion of concepts, literature, and case studies related to the issue under investigation.
Course Learning Outcomes
On completing the course, students will be able to:
- analyse and interpret key texts, theories, and examples related to a contemporary design and/or design research issue;
- articulate well-reasoned perspectives grounded in research and critical reflection;
- contribute to in-depth discussions with clarity, relevance, and academic rigour;
- reflect on the implications of the selected issue for their own design practice or research.
