Course Objectives

  • To provide a comprehensive understanding of European and world history from the 19th century to the aftermath of World War II.

  • To analyze the political, social, and economic changes that shaped modern states and global interactions.

  • To examine the role of Turkey in the broader context of European and world history.

  • To develop critical thinking and analytical skills through the study of historical events, treaties, and ideological movements.

  • To assess the consequences of World War I and II on global political and economic structures.


Course Content

The course analyzes Turkish and world history from the Congress of Vienna to the Treaty of Versailles. Turkey and the world before 1939 and World War II and its consequences are also examined in the course.


Course Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

Identify and explain key events, ideologies, and movements from the 19th century to the end of World War II.

Analyze the impact of nationalism, imperialism, and industrialization on European and world history.

Evaluate the causes and consequences of World War I and II from a global perspective.

Understand Turkey’s historical role within the context of European and world affairs.

Develop the ability to critically assess historical sources and construct well-supported historical arguments.
