Course Objectives

At the end of this course, students will:

- be familiar with the development of history writing from ancient Greece to the end of the nineteenth century

- be able to establish a chain of shifts in historiography

- have acquired comparative and diverse perspectives regarding the concept of history, historiography and historical methodology.


Course Content

The course is designed to acquaint the students with different historical traditions. The students will be involved in both applied (analytical) and theoretical work. For this purpose, works from different methodological backgrounds will be chosen and studied together with the respective school of thought.


Course Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course, students will be:

- able to identify and discuss the characteristics of key representatives of different historical traditions and their works.

- familiar with various definitions and debates, methodological approaches and conceptual concerns related to historical understanding and inquiry.
